SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams Baseball team defended their home turf with a 14-2 non-conference win over Wayland Baptist at Foster Field on Tuesday. The Rams only took seven innings to down Wayland Baptist, and now will take the weekend off for a well-deserved bye week.
The Rams took the lead early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Ryder McDaniel highlighted the inning with an RBI Triple, followed by a double from Rance Rosas. Tripp Clark added another RBI on a sac fly in the second, and Kannon Brooks added two more in the third on a double to give the Rams a 7-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
Wayland Baptist struck back in the 4th inning with a solo home run and an RBI single to make the score 7-2. However, the Rams would not be denied as Angelo State answered with three runs in the bottom of the 4th to put the game out of reach, 10-2. Angelo State added four more runs before it was all said and done to rout the Pioneers on Tuesday, 14-2.
Luke Spencer received the start and the win on Tuesday afternoon. He threw three innings and only allowed one hit while adding six strikeouts. Spencer moves to 2-0 on the season with the win.
The Rams take their bye week this weekend before they return to action for another Lone Star Conference series—this time against Texas A&M Kingsville on the road on Friday, April 5.
