PECOS, TX — Wind and rainy weather could not stop the San Angelo Central Lady Cats from victory on Tuesday. The Lady Cats Soccer team traveled to Pecos to play their Bi-District playoff matchup against El Paso Americas. The two teams matched up evenly for almost the entire contest until Central finally broke the stalemate with less than ten minutes to play. The Lady Cats claimed a Bi-District Championship with a 1-0 victory.
Lady Cats Head Coach Benjamin Henry gave his thoughts on the ladies’ performance after Central’s win. Watch the interview below:
An absolute battle ensued immediately after the kickoff between Central and El Paso Americas. Both defenses played tough, and neither team gave ground for the entire first half. Central had some early opportunities to score, but Americas proved up to the task of turning the Lady Cats away every time. The first half ended scoreless.
In the second half, the competitive atmosphere continued. Central excelled on defense, keeping Americas out of the Lady Cats half of the field. Finally, with just under seven minutes to play, the Lady Cats finally found an opening. Assisted by Alyssa Villareal, Carley Martinez found space to send a shot in the back of the net. The Lady Cats broke the stalemate and held on to win, 1-0.
The Lady Cats next head to the Area Round, where they will play the winner of Weatherford and Timber Creek. The game time and location are still to be determined.
