No. 24 Belles Softball Return Home with a Road Series Victory

SAN ANTONIO, TX — On Monday, the No. 24 Angelo State Rambelles Softball team won another Lone Star Conference Series, this time in San Antonio, against the St. Mary’s Rattlers. The Rambelles were originally slated to play St. Mary’s over the weekend before weather complications forced the series to Sunday, March 17, and Monday, March 18.

After picking up a 4-3 opening win on Sunday, the Belles played a doubleheader on Monday. In Game 2, Cheyenne Floyd pitched a shutout in an almost flawless performance, allowing five hits and four walks. The Belles’ defense came to play and had Floyd’s back throughout the contest, even though she never recorded a strikeout.

Angelo State broke the 0-0 stalemate in the 6th inning with two runs, which would win the Belles the game. Carter Smith drew a one-out walk to put runners on base before Laylonna Applin singled to put two on. Tatiana Trotter then stepped up and doubled to left to score Smith. Keilei Garcia pushed another runner to home on a sac-RBI.

The Belles won 2-0. Cheyenne Floyd picked up her 14th win of the season and moved to 14-4 overall in starts.

The Rambelles took another lead in Game 3, which held until the bottom of the 7th inning. With three outs to go, ASU led 5-4, but St. Mary’s scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to narrowly avoid the series sweep with a walk-off win.

Angelo State improved to 24-10 (15-9 LSC) with the series win. The Belles return home to face Western New Mexico this weekend at Mayer Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for Friday, March 22, at 4 p.m.
