Area Track Teams Shine at ASU Spring Break Invitational

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Local High Schools from around the Concho Valley and others across the state of Texas gathered at Angelo State University during Spring Break on Thursday, March 15, for the ASU Spring Break Invitational Track meet. While many schools are off this week, several track teams chose to participate during the break as they prepare for rapidly approaching district meets.

Several local teams competed on Thursday at Angelo State, including:

  • Ballinger
  • Reagan County
  • Blackwell
  • Bronte
  • Eldorado
  • Miles
  • Ozona
  • Paint Rock
  • San Angelo Central
  • Lake View
  • Grape Creek
  • Sonora
  • Veribest
  • Wall

Wall showed out during the competition, as the Hawks and Lady Hawks collected several top finishes throughout. 

Hawks

  • Briggs Jones took third place in the 100-meter dash, second place in the 200-meter dash, and first place in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
  • Mason Snowden recorded a 49.96 for gold in the 400-meter dash. 
  • Jacob Soto claimed second place in the 1600-meter run. 
  • Gavin Sisson and Slayton Hallmark took second and third in the 110-meter hurdles, and Evan Boehle finished second in the 300-meter hurdles.
  • The Hawks relay teams finished first in the 4x100 and second in the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays.

Lady Hawks

  • Lexi Slaughter took home second place in the 400-meter dash.
  • Sealie Hughes won the 800-meter run.
  • Mckenzie Lopez took bronze in the 1600-meter run and silver in the 3200-meter run.
  • The Lady Hawks’ relay teams placed first in the 4x100 and second place in the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays.
  • Abbie Boehle finished second in the Long Jump.

Other top finishers included:

Boys

  • Reagan County’s Julian Rodriguez placed third in the 800-meter run and second in the 3200-meter run. 
  • Paint Rock’s State Champion Austin Magness won the 3200-meter run.
  • Blackwell’s Kater Cummings and Sonora’s Kam Aguero placed second and third in the 100 and 400-meter dash.
  • David Salas from Cornerstone Christian won the 1600-meter run.
  • Sonora’s Kasey Lux won the 300-meter hurdles.
  • Sonora also won the 4x400 relay.
  • Miles Luke Cerda placed second in the Pole Vault.
  • Evan Ochoa from Ballinger placed second in the Shot Put.

Girls

  • Miles Chloe Becker won the 100-meter dash while Lake View Maidens Analycia Vasques took second and Central High School’s Jaida Ennis took 3rd.
  • Ballinger’s Ashtyn Wilson scored third place in the 100-meter hurdles.
  • Brylee Gutierrez from Ozona finished third in the 300-meter hurdles.
  • The Lake View Maidens’ 4x100-meter relay team finished second.
  • Ozona’s Kelyn Gass finished first in the high jump, while Emily Jackson from Bronte finished third.
  • Matilda Galvan from Ballinger claimed victory in the Triple Jump, with Central Lady Cats Mariel Harzke finishing second and Bronte’s Emalyn Bohensky finishing third.
