Irion County Powerlifter Heads to State

MERTZON— An Irion County Lady Hornet makes her way to State for powerlifting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024!

On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Irion County has organized a sendoff for Zoe Baumann, a senior powerlifter. Baumann started the year off injured but has come around and made it to the State meet in Frisco, Texas.

Baumann has a little legacy in her past as her father went to state in powerlifting for Irion County as well. Baumann is actually using her father’s weight belt.

“There’s no limit on this girl,” Irion County Powerlifting Head Coach Wes Blocker said, “she’s a pretty amazing kid and she defeated the odds.”

Baumann’s father received some praise as well from Coach Blocker for his help along the way and pushing his daughters into something they love doing.

That’s right, daughters, as Zoe has a younger sister, Erin Baumann, who made it regionals.

The sendoff for Baumann is at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow as the Lady Hornet will make the trip to Frisco to compete at the State Powerlifting Meet.
