FRISCO, TX — The Angelo State Rams and Rambelles Basketball teams head to Frisco this weekend for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. Both teams performed well enough during the regular season to be one of eight teams in each of the men’s and women’s divisions to make the cut.
Angelo State Rams
The Rams will be the first San Angelo team to play in the tournament. The Rams face off with Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, March 7, at the Comerica Center in Frisco. The Rams split the regular season series with the Greyhounds this season, with each team winning their respective games at home. The Rams came off a clutch win over UTPB in Odessa last Thursday in a game where Willie Guy hit the game-winner with less than three seconds to play. The Rams will need that same energy headed into Thursday night’s matchup if they hope to advance in the tournament.
With Angelo State’s performance last week, the Rams saw their stock rise in the NCAA’s Regional Rankings. ASU moved up one spot to 8th in the South Central Region, two spots behind their opponent on Thursday night in Eastern New Mexico. The NCAA selection show for the Regional Tournament is on Sunday night, March 10, at 10 p.m.
Angelo State Rambelles
The Belles play their first Lone Star Conference Tournament game on Friday, March 8, at 12 p.m. For the third game in a row, the Belles will play the University of Texas Permian Basin. Angelo State closed out the regular season against the Lady Falcons last week, with each team taking a game. UTPB won in Odessa, and the Rambelles blew UTPB out at home on Senior Day.
Head Coach Alesha Ellis said in her weekly press conference on Monday that the Belles learned from the first game in which ASU lost and have another new approach in store for the Lady Falcons on Friday. Check out Coach Ellis’s full press conference below:
