Sterling City Wins Rivalry Rematch with Miles in Bi-District Playoff

SAN ANGELO— The Sterling City Eagles came out on top last night against the Miles Bulldogs, 48-38, in the Bi-District Round of the High School Basketball Playoffs.

This is turning into a pretty good rivalry between schools as, yet again, Sterling City drew Miles in the opening round. The Eagles flipped the script from football, where the Bulldogs won 48-0, and got their revenge at the Junell Center at Angelo State University last night, 48-38.

Sterling City’s Ty and Seth Turner went off as did Miles’ Hayven Book and Ethan James, where the duos scored a combined 28 points each for their respective teams, but turnovers doomed the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were ahead after one, 14-11, but a nine-point second quarter to the Eagle’s 18 points made things difficult for Miles. In less than two minutes, the Eagles turned a 21-18 lead into a 27-18 lead. The Bulldog’s James hit a three pointer as the buzzer sounded for the teams to head in for halftime with the Eagles up, 29-23.

The Bulldogs came out and reclaimed the lead only for the Eagles to take it back shortly after late in the third quarter.

The final quarter started with Sterling City up 35-30. With just under five minutes left, the Eagles had held on to a five-point lead, 39-34, and ultimately won, 48-38. They’ll move on to the Area Round and take on the New Home Leopards on February 22, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at Big Spring High School.
