Concho Valley Girl's Basketball Regional Quarterfinals Roundup

SAN ANGELO— The girls’ varsity basketball teams enter the Regional Quarterfinal Round of the Texas High School Basketball Playoffs.

The Concho Valley still has more than a handful of teams still shooting for a state title. The problem is that now, Concho Valley teams are squaring off against one another. Some have already faced off against each other, like Miles and Eldorado, and now the competition is heating up.

At the 1A level, three Concho Valley teams are still alive and well: Menard, Irion County, and Robert Lee.

Menard Lady Yellowjackets (25-5, 7-1) vs. Irion County Lady Hornets (24-8, 9-1)

Lake View High School on February 20, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

Both the Lady Yellowjackets and Hornets have stung Bronte and Paint Rock already in the Bi-District Round. Menard then beat Marathon, and Irion County beat Buena Vista at Area, and now.

The winning wasp will move to play the winner of Harrold and Westbrook.

Robert Lee Lady Steers (27-8) vs Garden City Lady Bearkats (24-10, 5-5)

Junell Center at Angelo State University on February 20, 2024, at 8:00 p.m.

These two teams are actually in the same district where the Lady Steers won both matchups, 32-29 and 60-27. Also, the Eden Lady Bulldogs were a common opponent between them as well. Robert Lee won their match-up with Eden back before Thanksgiving, 47-29, and the Lady Bearkats beat Eden in the Bi-District Round, 40-38.

The winner here will take on the winner of Hermleigh and Era.

On the 2A level, Christoval, Ozona, and Mason are still in the fight.

Christoval Lady Cougars (29-7, 14-0) vs Sundown Lady Roughnecks (20-14, 7-5)

Howard College in Big Spring on February 20, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

These two teams have a common opponent in the Ropes Lady Eagles. The Lady Cougars beat Ropes in the Area Round, 40-32, and held them to only free throws in the first half of the game. Sundown beat Ropes 52-44 and 47-37.

Floydada or Farwell will have the winner of this one waiting on them.

Ozona Lady Lions (31-5, 12-2) vs New Home Lady Leopards (26-7, 12-0)

Big Spring High School on February 20, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

The only two losses in district the Lady Lions suffered were at the hands of the Lady Cougars. This should be a high-octane matchup with two teams that have scored a combined 3,850 points. New Home is 2-1 against the Concho Valley, beating the Wall Lady Hawks twice and losing to the San Angelo Central Lady Bobcats.

The winner here will face Wellington or Vega next.

Mason Cowgirls (13-10, 2-2) vs San Saba Lady Armadillos (21-5, 3-1)

Fredericksburg High School on February 20, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

Here is another matchup between district opponents. For the Lady Armadillos, the five games they’ve dropped have been to Richland Springs, Eastland, Cisco, Goldthwaite, and Comanche. With the exception of Eastland, who just got beat by Jim Ned, all those teams are currently in the playoffs.

On Maxpreps, the scores have not been reported for the Mason matchups, but they, too, have played Richland Springs, which resulted in two losses and also lost to Eastland.

The winner will face either Shiner or Thrall.

Wall Lady Hawks (23-7, 10-2) vs Brock Lady Eagles (26-9, 13-1)

Abilene Christian University on February 20, 2024, at 8:00 p.m.

It’s a tale as old as time as Wall knows everything they want to know about Brock. These two schools matchup deep in the playoffs, although less lately as Brock moved up to 3A-D1 and now are a 4A. Brock did beat Wall’s district opponent, Coahoma, in the Area Round.

Shallowater or Canadian will be next on either Wall’s or Brock’s playoff path.
