SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams hosted the Cameron Aggies for a Lone Star Conference matchup on Thursday night, February 15, at the Stephens Arena in the Junell Center. The Rams rode a hot shooting night to avenge their earlier season loss to the Aggies with an 80-71 victory.
After the Rams fell in overtime to West Texas A&M last weekend, ASU desperately needed a conference win to climb back into the mix toward the end of the season. Behind 28 points from Keyshawn Embery-Simpson, the Rams achieved exactly what they needed with a dominant victory.
The Aggies hit a shot in the final moments of the first half to take a 32-31 lead heading into halftime, but a 13-2 run from Angelo State handed the lead back to the Rams, who never looked back. Angelo State secured the victory, 80-71. The Rams shot 51 percent from the floor and 57.9 percent from three in Thursday’s contest.
Embery-Simpson led the Rams with 28 points, followed by Kevon Godwin with 19 points and Willie Guy with 17 points. Angelo State improves to 16-8 overall on the season and sports an 11-7 conference record. The Rams return to action at home against Midwestern State on Saturday, February 17, at the Stephens Arena in the Junell Center here in San Angelo. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
