SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats faced off with the Frenship Tigers on Friday night, February 10, for a District 2-6A matchup with heavy playoff implications on the line. Despite a solid start, a slow 3rd quarter ultimately doomed the ‘Cats on a night where they just could not buy a 3-point shot. Central fell to Frenship at home, 57-49.
Central dominated the boards throughout this contest. Points in the paint were plenty as Talmadge Taylor put up 18 points on the night. Kollin Allbright added 15 points in a contest where the big man hit one of two Bobcats three-pointers.
Frenship experienced zero of the same issues from beyond the arc. After Central scored several baskets inside to build some momentum, it took only a couple of shots for the Tigers to stymie a comeback. The Tigers were 4-5 from three in the first quarter and finished the evening over 50% from three.
The Bobcats had several opportunities to come back in the fourth quarter, but the shooting just was not there. Frenship won in the end 57-49 to claim the 2023-2024 District 2-6A Championship. Now, the Bobcats have one final game to try and secure the No. 2 seed in the district heading into the playoffs.
The Bobcats host the Midland Legacy Rebels at home next Tuesday, February 13, in a must-win situation if the ‘Cats want to finish in second place. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
