CHRISTOVAL— The Christoval Lady Cougars have finished district play undefeated after beating the Sterling City Lady Eagles, 30-15, and are district champions.
As sickness sweeps the area, the Lady Cougars were down a player and after a tough first half, turned it on in the second. The night had two huge moments for the Lady Cougars as they lifted the gold ball and Halle “Full Metal” Hughes reached the 1,000-point mark as a junior.
In the first half, the score was 12-7, with Hughes scoring six, Braylee Silva scoring four, and Jordyn Walker with two. Sterling City’s Doriana Gaston hit a three and Molly McPherson and Christina Geary each had two.
In the third, Hughes added six, hitting two free throws and two two-point shots and Natalee Brooks sank a three-point shot and also hit two free throws for an 11-point quarter while the Lady Eagles’ McPherson had two points and Geary had three for a five-point quarter.
Heading into the fourth, Sophia Nemec, Walker, and Hughes added two apiece and Walker hit one free throw and Sterling City had three points, one from Geary and two from Brynlee Gaines.
