Rams and Belles Fall on the Road to Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, NM — The Angelo State Rams and Rambelles played their first of two away games on Thursday, February 1, against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. The road trip was not kind to either of them, as both the Rams and Belles fell on Thursday night.

A slow offensive fourth quarter ultimately doomed the Belles’ chances at a victory after leading the majority of the contest on Thursday night. ASU built a 20-16 lead that the Lady Greyhounds slowly whittled away until ENMU finally took over in the fourth. Eastern New Mexico won in the end, 60-55.

Sawyer Lloyd led the Belles with 18 points. Angelo State falls to 15-7 on the season and a 9-4 overall record in Lone Star Conference play.

The Rams had an off-shooting night from the get-go as Eastern New Mexico outscored ASU by 21 points in the evening. After the Rams built a 21-14 lead midway through the first half, ENMU went on a 22-0 run to take the lead. The Greyhounds never looked back and soundly beat the Rams 100-79.

Keyshawn Embery-Simpson led the Rams offensively with 16 points. He added four rebounds and led ASU with a team-high eight assists. The Rams fall to 14-6 overall on the season and 9-5 in LSC play.

The men's and the women’s teams have one more game this weekend when they take on the Western New Mexico Mustangs on Saturday, February 3—the Belles tip-off at 4:30 pm., with the Rams following immediately after.
