SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams bounced from a string of defeats with a huge win over St. Mary’s on Thursday night at the Stephens Arena in the Junell Center here in San Angelo. The Rams never trailed in a game where they hit a season-high 3-point shots and assists. Angelo State won 111-89.

According to angelosports.com, the 111 points were the most the Rams have scored against another Division II opponent since Angelo State did it against Eastern New Mexico back in 2015. ASU shot 58 percent from the floor and made 17 3-point shots in the win. Most impressively, the Rams, who’ve been injured as of late, had 30 assists in a game where all nine players on the roster saw action on Thursday night.
DJ Basey got involved with the crowd early as he slammed home several alley-oops to give the Rams an advantage in the first half. Kevon Godwin, Keyshawn Embery-Simpson, and Wille Guy handled most of the Rams’ offense for most of the night.
St. Mary’s made a comeback early in the 2nd half, but solid defense down the stretch behind excellent 3-point shooting allowed the Rams to put the Rattlers away.
Kevon Godwin led the Rams with 28 points, followed by Embery-Simpson with 20 points. The Rams return to action on Saturday, January 28, when they host St. Edwards. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
