ROBERT LEE— Kailey Freeman led the 25th ranked Robert Lee Lady against the Garden City Lady Bearkats where the Lady Steers dominated, 60-27.
Freeman jumped out to a fantastic started and ended the game with a team high 28 points followed by Kenzie Galicia with 15. She and Chassidy Castillo had five points in the first quarter while Freeman established control right off the bat with 11. Garden City’s Karly Baker and Kaylee Garcia had six points combined in the first, giving Robert Lee a 16-6 lead heading into the second.
It was more of the game in the second where Freeman put up eight and Galicia added five. Castillo added another two from the free throw line and Zoey Nichols banked in a three. Caitlyn Eubanks also added two to the scoreboard.
Garden City managed to put-up double-digit points in the second quarter with Baker added four points, Emy Schwartz with three points, Brylon Frerich sinking a three, and Amber Schwartz making a free throw.
At halftime, the Robert Lee Lady Steers were up 36-17.
The second half was more of the same from Robert Lee, Freeman and Galicia combined for 16 points Castillo made a free throw, Kailen Pouge hit a three-point shot, while Ammi Smith and Kylen Pitcock threw up four points.
The Lady Bearkats had a rough second half and the team combined for 10 points as some of them entered foul trouble. Lacy Seidenberger hit a three while Baker, Kelsey Gully, and Garcia each had two points and Amber Schwartz hit another free throw.
With that, the Robert Lee Lady Steers protected their home and were victorious, 60-27. They will travel to The Hive in Mertzon, Texas on Friday for a huge test when they take on the Irion County Lady Hornets, who are undefeated in district. The win elevated the Lady Steers to 4-2 in district while the Lady Bearkats fell to 3-3.
