Bobcats and Lady Cats Secure Victory over Midland High

SAN ANGELO, TX  — The San Angelo Central Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted district matchups against Midland High on Tuesday night, January 16. The Lady Cats maintained a perfect record in district play while the Bobcats secured their first and much-needed district victory.

LADY CATS

Central came out of the gates hot and outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the first two frames. The Lady Cats' defense forced several turnovers that led to fast-break baskets on the other end of the floor. The Lady Cats built upon their lead with each passing quarter, and the Lady Bulldogs could never find a way to stop them. Neveah Hearne proved too much for Midland as she dominated in the 2nd half. Everyone was involved somehow as the Lady Cats closed out the game.

Central downed Midland High 55-33 in domineering fashion. The Lady Cats improved to 16-10 overall on the season and a perfect 4-0 in District. That elusive district championship is still a dream at the moment, but with every victory these ladies achieve, that dream is one step closer.

Nevaeh Hearne led the Lady Cats in scoring on Tuesday night with one of her best games of the season. She dropped 22 points, while Mckenna McMillan added 13 points.

BOBCATS

The Central Bobcats sought their first district win on Tuesday night when the visiting Midland High Bulldogs came to town. Central played much better than they did against Odessa Permian last Friday in the 1st quarter to take the lead over the Bulldogs. TK Taylor was a major part of the offense early as the Bobcats locked down Midland on defense.

In the 2nd half, Hayden Schmidt caught fire from three when he made three three-point shots in the 3rd quarter. Midland High couldn’t miss in the 2nd half but was too far behind at that point to make up the difference. Kollin Allbright and Squeaky English added the rest of the offense on the way to a Bobcat victory. The ‘Cats took home the win, 65-52.

Coach Rocky Feliciano gave his thoughts on his team’s performance after the game. Check out the full interview below:

The Bobcats and Lady Cats hit the road again on Friday, January 19, when they travel to Odessa to play the Odessa High Bronchos. The Lady Cats are scheduled to start at 6 p.m., with the Bobcats following immediately after.
