WACO, TX — Former Dallas Cowboys legendary tight end Jason Witten, who recently coached Argyle Liberty Christian to a state title in Texas, has been nominated by the Cowboys for the NFL's 2023 Don Shula High School Coach of the Year Award.

Under this initiative, each of the 32 teams in the NFL nominates a head coach from their respective area or region.

Witten assumed the coaching role for the Liberty Christian Warriors, guiding them to victory in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Division II state championship against the Regents Knights from Austin.

The championship game took place in Waco, where the Warriors won a 52-10 victory, concluding their season undefeated at 14-0.

Witten played 17 seasons in the NFL, notably with the Cowboys and Raiders. Witten, now 41, transitioned into coaching following his illustrious career on the field.
