LUBBOCK, TX — The TLCA San Angelo Eagles won the Advanced Graphix Boys Championship at the Lubbock Caprock Classic Basketball Tournament over the weekend.
The Lubbock Caprock Classic Basketball Tournament is known as the world’s largest basketball tournament, and the TLCA San Angelo Eagles, as well as other schools in the Concho Valley, participated this year.
The Eagles started their path towards a championship with a win over Grapevine Faith, 59-40. The same day of the tournament, TLCA San Angelo Eagles faced Texline and beat them 54-53.
On the second day of the tournament, the Eagles played Seymour, winning again this time, 53-37. This put them in the championship game against Floydada. The Eagles would win 72-46.
The Reagan County Owls also played at the Caprock Tournament and would lose to Lubbock Christian High School in the championship game, 48-33. The Owls beat Liberty, 61-59, Merkel, 72-39, and Beckville, 47-45, on their way to the championship game.
For the boys, the Ozona Lions and the Miles Bulldogs played in the Caprock Tournament as well.
Several players were named to the All-Tournament team from the Concho Valley as well, and those include:
- TLCA San Angelo- A-Jay Romero – Co-MVP
- TLCA San Angelo- Preston Romero
- TLCA San Angelo- Luis Castillas
- TLCA San Angelo- Drew Sherrill
- Reagan County- Kason Brown- MVP
- Reagan County- Nicholas Franklin
- Reagan County- Jarrett Brown
In the girls’ brackets, the Wall Lady Hawks beat Midland Trinity, 76-6, Wink, 73-35, and then lost to New Home, 65-63. Losing to the Lady Leopards sent the Lady Hawks to a game against Lubbock Christian High School, where they would lose 61-52.
The Miles Lady Bulldogs played in the Caprock as well and beat Merkel in their first game, 41-34. Then, Miles played the Muenster and lost 46-30. The Lady Bulldogs moved on to play Dimmitt, 55-35.
The Ozona Lady Lions would lose their first game to St. Mary, 53-47, then win against Lorenzo, 70-18, then lose to Liberty, 54-38. That set the Lady Lions up against Wink, where they won 41-22.
The San Angelo Lake View Maidens played at the Caprock tournament, playing Greenwood Monterrey, Granbury, and Dunbar.
The Wall Lady Hawk’s Brylyn Watts was on the All-Tournament team for the girls.
