Detroit Pistons Set Record for Longest Losing Streak in NBA History

DETROIT, MI — The Detroit Pistons (2-28) set an NBA record in their game against the Brooklyn Nets (15-15), but not one that any franchise in the league would ever want. The Pistons lost their 27th consecutive game to set a new low for the franchise and the NBA as a whole with a 118-112 loss to the Nets on Tuesday evening.

There were some bright spots on the infamous night as Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, dropped a team-high 41 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. After a hot start, the Pistons cooled off and trailed 61-54 at the half. Cunningham scored 18 points in the 3rd quarter to cut the Nets lead to three points at the start of the 4th quarter. With 8:10 remaining in the contest, the Pistons even went up by as many as five points before everything fell apart.

The Nets closed the game on a 26-15 run, retook the lead, and downed the Pistons 118-112. The Pistons go down in the history books on a night when Detroit could have won the game.

Regardless of what the average NBA fan thinks of the streak, the Pistons are in a bad spot. Detroit must find a way out of it, and Cade Cunningham might be the answer. With a 2-28 record, the likelihood of another No. 1 pick is high. Detroit needs several key pieces before the Pistons can reclaim some former glory and return to the playoffs.
