LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech landed the highest-rated recruit in the football team’s history since 247sports began collecting recruiting data on Wednesday. During Early National Signing Day, 5-Star Wide Receiver Micah Hudson, out of Lake Belton High School in Temple, signed with the Red Raiders.
Hudson initially gave his verbal commitment to Texas Tech back in September, but after an up-and-down season, many Tech supporters thought that the 5-star might de-commit since one of the top players out of Texas had offers from almost every school in the nation. Those fears appear to be unfounded, as Hudson signed on Wednesday.
Head Coach Joey McGuire initially recruited Hudson while he was still one of the coaches at Baylor in 2021. Coupled with the relationships built with Brian Nance (Director of Player personnel) and James Blanchard (General Manager on McGuire’s staff), who also came to Lubbock from Waco, Hudson will be a Red Raider.
Hudson put up stellar stats in high school in his time with the Broncos, with 70 receptions, 1370 yards, and 18 touchdowns in his senior season alone. The 6’0” receiver has excellent big play potential and should be ready to play Day 1 after so many Texas Tech receivers entered the transfer portal this off-season.
Hudson's father, Desmond Royal, was a defensive lineman for Texas Tech from 1985 to 1988. That factor most likely played a role in Hudson making the decision to head to Lubbock.
