CHRISTOVAL— The Christoval Lady Cougars remained undefeated in district play after beating their bitter rival right down the road, the Eldorado Lady Eagles, 65-22.
An explosive fourth quarter marked another huge victory for the Lady Cougars. Two Cougs, Halle Hughes and Sophia Nemec put-up double-digit points in the victory. During the opening frame, the Lady Cougars hit two three-point shots, two two-pointers, and two free throws to initially put up 12 points to the Lady Eagles’ seven points. Even though Christoval added 11 in the second quarter, the game still felt well within reach for the Lady Eagles, who added five to their total.
The teams went into halftime with the Lady Cougars up 23-12.

Christoval really started to pull away in the second half with good effort from Hughes and Braylee Silva, who had seven and six points respectively. Madyson George added one point from the free throw line. The Lady Eagles’ Zariah Garcia hit a three-point shot and Logan Prater scored five points. After three, Christoval was firmly in the lead, 37-20.
The Lady Cougars really kicked their game into overdrive in the fourth quarter, where they added 28 points to their total. Aaliyah Bogs led the way with eight points, Kaylin Workman scored six, Nemec scored five, Jae Thomason hit a three-pointer, and Hughes, Sienna Gonzalez, and Silva added two apiece. The Lady Eagles’ Maryssa Guerro made a two-point shot for Eldorado’s only points in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Cougars added another win to their record and are now 3-0 in district play after beating the Reagan County Lady Owls, Forsan Lady Buffaloes, and now the Eldorado Lady Eagles. They’ll play the Ozona Lady Lions, who are 18-1 overall and undefeated in district, in the first game of the new year on January 2, 2024. The Eldorado Lady Eagles will square off in the Battle of the Birds when they take on the Sterling City Lady Eagles on January 2, 2024.
