Timpson Sprints Away with the 2A Div I Championship

ARLINGTON, TX — The Timpson Bears and Tolar Rattlers squared off in the final title game on the Texas High School State Championship’s opening day at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. With both teams vying for the 2A Division I Title, 5-Star Athlete and Texas A&M commit Terry Bussey took over the first half for Timpson and set two Texas High School Football State Championship records in the process. Tolar never really ignited its impressive rushing attack, and the Bears dominated the line of scrimmage all night. Timpson won the 2A Division I Title 49-7.

Check out the game highlights below:

1st Half

A defensive battle dominated much of the 1st quarter, with neither team gaining much of an advantage. Timpson broke the deadlock with seven minutes remaining in the period. Explosive plays defined the night for the Bears on offense, and Timpson’s opening touchdown started it all. Bussey hit Colton Carroll in stride for a 43-yard touchdown. Timpson led 7-0 at the end of the first.

Bussey continued to shine on offense in the 2nd quarter. The Bears forced a punt by Tolar early in the second period and began the drive at the three-yard line. Bussey then hit Dacorian Johnson on a slant to give the Bears some breathing room. That was the plan anyway, but Johnson had other ideas. He broke the first tackle that came for him over the middle before showing his speed. The young man sprinted an additional 85 yards to the house for a touchdown and a sport in the record books. Bussey and Johnson share the longest pass and catch (97 yards) in Texas High School Football State Championship history.

The A&M commitment was not done wowing the crowd in the first half. Following the touchdown, Tolar had to punt the ball away, and the Rattlers downed the ball inside the five again. On second and long at the seven-yard line. Bussey took a designed quarterback run, sprinted outside, and outran everyone for another state championship record. Bussey now also holds the longest run in 2A State Championship history.

The Bears led at the half, 21-0.

2nd Half

Tolar finally found success on offense on the first possession in the 2nd half. After a consistent ground game pushed Tolar closer to the end zone, Isaac Blessing punched the ball in for the Rattlers on a 1-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately for the Rattlers, Timpson returned the following kickoff for a touchdown. The Bears led early in the 2nd half, 28-7.

The Rattlers continued to attempt to climb back into the contest, but stiff resistance from the Bears stopped Tolar in its tracks time and time again. Additionally, the Bears seemed unstoppable on offense. Bussey hit Johnson for another long touchdown and ran one in himself from 6 yards out.

Timpson added one more touchdown in the 4th quarter to claim the 2A Division I State Championship 49-7.

Timpson's Terry Bussey finished his night with Offensive MVP Honors. The young quarterback went 12/15 for 311 yards and four touchdowns. He added 155 yards on the ground on ten carries and two additional touchdowns.
