GRAPE CREEK, TX — The Grape Creek Eagles Football team recently received post-season recognition for the Eagles' effort during the regular season. Not only did Grape Creek land players on the 1st and 2nd teams, but Grape Creek also landed one of the top honors for the year.
DEFENSIVE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
- Sire Garcia
Garcia is a sophomore this season and was one of the leaders on Grape Creek's defense. The young man accumulated 68 Tackles on the season with five tackles for loss. He also was a force for Grape Creek with one fumble recovery and two interceptions returned for touchdowns. As Defensive Newcomer of the Year, the Eagles still have two more seasons to look forward to with Garcia on defense.

2nd Team Offense

The Grape Creek Eagles finished with a 2-8 overall record this season and 2-3 in district play. While that record might not look stellar, it does not tell the whole story of these Eagles. Grape Creek finished the season 0-10 a season ago. Head Coach Tanner Thiel said his boys committed to hard work in the offseason and would be better in 2023. He was right. By the time the district rolled around, the Eagles had compiled some momentum, and their improvements shone through. Grape Creek defeated Brady 20-13 and followed that up with a 30-13 victory over Ballinger.
In fact, the Eagles almost claimed the last spot in the playoffs but lost the tie-breaker at the end to TLCA. Coach Thiel and the rest of the Eagles are building something in Grape Creek, and Eagle fans should look forward to what they bring to the table in the future.
