MILES— The Wall Hawks and Lady Hawks beat the Miles Bulldogs last night in Miles on the hard court.
This is the first basketball game where Wall had all of their players as their football season ended last Friday. Miles Bulldog Head Basketball Coach Gerald Butts wasn’t fazed and knew that the Hawks were going to bring everything they had.
“Make no mistake, he (Wall Head Coach Shane Dawson) has had his ballers in the gym,” said Butts.
The Hawks started strong with a 16-point first quarter, but so did the Bulldogs who only had a four-point gap after one as they scored 12 points. The second quarter, things started going Wall’s way in large part to Augden Hallmark, who scored 13 points in the second frame including three 3- point shots.
In the second half, Wall did much of the same by putting up 18 points and 14 points respectively over those quarters. The Bulldogs put up 17 combined in the second half.
The Lady Hawks also won their game and got everyone involved as only one player did not score any points. The Lady Bulldogs were led by freshman Jayci Barnes, who had 11 points that included two three-point shots. Right behind Barnes was Kaleigh Elliott with 10 points.
The Wall girls jumped out to a 18-3 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs fought back but could close the gap before halftime. Miles scored 14 points in the second quarter compared to Wall’s 12 points. In the second half, Brylyn Watts had four of the nine points the Lady Hawks put up in the third quarter and was the only one who sank a two-point shot in the fourth.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 12 points over the last two quarters.
