Roosevelt to Meet Wall Hawks’ ‘Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’

WALL, TX — The No. 8 Wall Hawks continue their 2023 Title Run on Friday when they travel to Sweetwater on Friday, November 23, to play their Regional Semi-final matchup against the Lubbock Roosevelt Eagles. This playoff matchup will almost seem like a mirror match as both teams run almost identical offenses. The Hawks need to be prepared to stop the run if they want a ticket to the 4th round for the second year in a row.

San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick met up with Wall’s Head Coach Houston Guy during Thanksgiving week after morning practice on Wednesday to talk about Wall’s win over Childress last week and what he expects from the Eagles this weekend.

The key to Wall’s victory in this matchup will be the defense. The Hawks lean heavily on a defensive group that has only allowed 6.8 points per game this season. One defensive group in particular that will more than likely lead the way for the Hawks on Friday is Wall’s  “Four Horsemen.”

The Four Horsemen include senior Will Scherr, junior Brylan White, junior Ethan Michalewicz, and senior Logan Thomas. These four lead the Hawks in tackles with 338, 56 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, 50 quarterback pressures, five forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries. The Four Horsemen have lived in the opponent’s backfields all season and should find success this weekend. When these guys are let off the chain, they make a difference.

The Four Horsemen refer to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in the Book of Revelations in the Bible. Revelations 6:8 reads:

“And I looked, and behold a pale horse, and the name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.”

While these difference makers like to play ultra-aggressive, Lubbock Roosevelt’s offense is great at what they do. The Eagles run the same triple-option offense that the Hawks do, and Coach Guy said on Wednesday that it’s some of the best he’s seen in a long time. To combat this, Wall will have to play disciplined, assignment football. The Four Horsemen will have to reign it in a bit at the beginning of the game to ensure that they do not over-pursue.

Offensively, Wall needs to work the clock and not turn the ball over. Childress hung around all game last week because the Hawks turned the ball over. Gunnar Dillard and company need to finish the game with zero turnovers to ensure a victory.

The Regional Semi-final matchup will take place on Friday, November 24, at the Mustang Bowl in Sweetwater. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
