WATCH: Brock Eagles Crush the Muleshoe Mules at San Angelo Stadium

SAN ANGELO— The Brock Eagles handled the Muleshoe Mules on Thursday night, 76-13, at San Angelo Stadium to advance to the third round of the Texas High School Football Playoffs.

From the word go, the Eagles got after it and forced the Mules to punt the ball. They punted the ball to Colt Matlock who ran down the field and returned the punt for a touchdown that ended up moving Brock to 7-0 over Muleshoe. After another short offensive possession by the Mules, Brody Woods found Britton Burrows for a 19-yard touchdown with 4:33 remaining in the first quarter.

This is where things get crazy.

After the entire defensive line broke through to sack Muleshoe’s quarterback, Brock’s Jesse Rusinek snagged himself an interception. The Mules would have a good defensive play, but Woods found Matlock for a 39-yard touchdown. This put Brock up 20-0 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.

Then, Muleshoe’s Sebastian Kirven fumbled the ball ,and it was returned by Rusinek but a flag on Brock brought the ball back. Then Woods found Jaxon Hart down the middle of the field for another touchdown.

In about four minutes, Brock put up two touchdowns and would add another Rusinek interception and a Brett Tutter touchdown in the :47 seconds that remained in the first quarter. Now, Brock has a 34-0 lead over the Mules going into the second quarter.

Muleshoe quarterback Nathan Martens’ legs would get him out of a lot of trouble on the ensuing drive, but Brock would end up with the ball where Tyler Butler had a huge run down the Brock sideline and Woods would finish off the drive in the endzone. With 8:46 left in the half, the Eagles are up 41-0.

The Eagle’s secondary wasn’t done as Cale Bramblett picked off Martens and took it back to the house to up the Eagles up 48-0 with 8:00 left in the half. On the next Eagles drive, Woods would rush one in from 18-yards out with just under two minutes left in the first half to put Brock up 55-0.

On the next Muleshoe drive, a late hit out of bounds gave the Mules a new set of downs but Martens would be picked off again, this time by Hyatt Dunaway, who would return it for a touchdown as time expired on the first half. The Eagles are now up 62-0.

Coming out after the half, Muleshoe’s Josue Sigala tore off a 35-yard run for the Mule’s first score of the game and on the ensuing kickoff, Brock’s Matlock returned the kickoff for a score. Now, Brock leads Muleshoe, 69-7.

Brock’s Coty Farmer found the endzone with 9:10 left in the game to extend the lead to 76-7 and after a couple of turnovers by both teams, Martens found Kirven for a quick three-yard score as time ran out on the game.

The Brock Eagles beat the Muleshoe Mules 76-13. All three phases of the game were a well-oiled machine for the Eagles. The offense scored seven touchdowns and the defense and special teams scored four touchdowns. The defense also snagged six turnovers.

Brock moves on to the Regional Semifinals and will play the winner of Clyde v Shallowater, who play at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
