Wall Faces True Test Against Childress

WALL, TX — The No. 2 Wall Hawks look to take the next step on their State Championship run on Friday night, November 17, in Post when they take on the Childress Bobcats in the Area Round of the playoffs. Wall defeated Tornillo a week ago 66-0 but will run into a completely different level of competition on Friday.

Childress finished the regular season with an 8-3 overall record (4-1 in district play). The Bobcats came in second in their district, with the only district loss coming at the hands of the No. 2 ranked team in 3A Division II, the Canadian Wildcats. Wall squared off with Childress in the playoffs a season ago, where the Hawks dominated the matchup 44-10.

San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick spoke with Wall Head Coach Houston Guy ahead of the Area Round rematch against Childress. Check out the full interview below:

Guy said this week will determine how good his Hawks are this season. Wall tended to turn the ball over earlier this season, but that problem looks to have been resolved in recent weeks. Wall currently rides a six-game winning streak, with its last loss coming to the rival Mason Punchers at the Puncherdome at the end of September.

Wall has several players that make a difference each week, and San Angelo LIVE! Caught up with two of them after practice on Wednesday. Check out the player interviews below:

While Wall might be the favorite in this matchup, they cannot take the Bocbats lightly. The Hawks need to play a perfect game to not only secure an Area Championship but also prove to themselves that this year they have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with teams like Canadian down the road.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday night in Post.
