Mason Punchers Look to Knock Out Indians in Area Round of Playoffs

 

SAN MARCOS— The Mason Punchers are looking to extend their winning streak against the Ganado Indians tonight at Rattler Stadium in San Marcos in the Area Round of the Texas High School Football Playoffs.

The undefeated Mason Punchers have downed some really good football teams this including Coleman, Ozona, Wall, Johnson City, and Junction. All five of those teams made the playoffs this season. Last week, in the Bi-District round, the Punchers knocked out the Thrall Tigers 28-7. The Mason Punchers do run the ball and have two really good running backs in Sutton Silerio and Ryne Todd.

The Ganado Indians are going to give the Punchers a good fight. Quarterback Bryce Ullman has 2,329 yards through the air with 36 touchdowns and five interceptions. The Indians have five receivers who have over 300 yards and those five have 32 of the touchdowns Ullman has thrown.

Ganado has a three-headed monster in the backfield with Dylan Holt, freshman Logan Bures, and Ullman, who have 436 yards, 544 yards, and 338 yards respectively. Those three also have 25 of the 26 rushing touchdown on the season for Ganado.

Sophomore Landon Hicks leads the team with 74 tackles on defense followed by Bures with 65. Those two underclassmen form a dynamic tackling duo for the Indians. Holt leads the Indians in sacks with six and sophomore Austen Pena has three of the five interceptions on the season.

The Mason Punchers do battle with the Ganado Indians at Rattler Stadium in San Marcos on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
