Rams and Rambelles Picked for Preseason Players of the Year

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lone Star Conference announced its preseason poll and preseason players of the year for Men’s and Women’s Basketball on Monday, October 23. The Rams and Rambelles both had players named as preseason player of the year and were both picked to finish near the top in the conference this season.

Angelo State was picked to finish second overall and received nine first-place votes. 

The LSC selected the Rams senior guard Kevon Godwin as the preseason player of the year. An Interdisciplinary Studies major, Godwin averaged 16.9 points on 45.7 percent shooting from the field a season ago.

He averaged 19.7 points per game in LSC play and led the conference with a 43.3 shooting percentage from three-point land in 22 conference games.  

Godwin was an All-LSC First Team selection last season and earned all-region honors from the NABC and D2CCA. He finished 11 games with 20 or more points and two of those with 30 or more points.

Godwin and the Rams open the 2023-24 season on November 10-11 in Portales, New Mexico, where they will take on Fort Lewis and New Mexico Highlands.

Angelo State was picked to finish first in the Lone Star Conference this season with 15 first-place votes and 652 total votes. Senior Sawyer Lloyd was selected as the co-preseason player of the year, along with Grace Foster from Lubbock Christian.

Last season, Lloyd led the Rambelles in rebounds and steals to secure the LSC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-LSC selection. In addition to being named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year, Lloyd was named to the LSC All-Tournament Team, WBCA All-South Central Region First Team, and All-LSC First Team. She was named LSC Player of the Week six times during the season. The Rambelles will kick off the 2023-2024 season on the road at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the Trailhead on November 3rd against UMary.
