ARLINGTON, TX — The Big 12 Conference released its Preseason Poll for the upcoming 2023-24 Basketball season on Friday, October 13. In a vote taken by all the head coaches in the Big 12, each school was ranked in the order of votes received. Check out the results below.
TOP 5
No. 1 KANSAS
Kansas tops the charts again this year as the Conference favorite. In 28 seasons, the Jayhawks have been picked outright or tied for first in 20 preseason ledgers and won or shared the regular season championship in 21 years.
No. 2 HOUSTON
Following Kansas are newcomers to the Big 12, the Houston Cougars, at number two.
No. 3 TEXAS
The Texas Longhorns come in at number three in the ‘Horns last season in the Big 12.
No. 4 BAYLOR
The Baylor Bears are listed at number four, with Coach Scott Drew and company hungry for another title run.
No. 5 TCU
Rounding out the top five is the TCU Horned Frogs. TCU should be considered the most improved team over the past two seasons and should make national waves this season.
PRESEASON POLL CONTINUED
No. 6 Kansas State, No. 7 Iowa State, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 9 West Virginia, and No. 10 Oklahoma State round out the top 10.
No. 8 TEXAS TECH
Texas Tech is in an interesting position after parting ways with Mark Adams a season ago. Red Raider fans have gone through the wringer since Chris Beard led Texas Tech to the Title game in the NCAA Tournament just four years ago. Now, under the leadership of Grant McCasland, the Red Raiders should be back on track in a season or two. McCasland led the University of North Texas Mean Green to a NIT Championship and program record 31 wins in 2023.
PRESEASON POLL CONTINUED
No. 11 Cincinnati, No. 12 Oklahoma, No. 13 BYU, and No. 14 UCF round out the preseason poll in the 11-14 spots. Houston, Cincinnati, BYU, and UCF are newcomers to the Big 12 season, and only Houston was picked at the top of the conference.
The 2023-24 College Basketball season is scheduled to begin on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023.
