Lake View Falls at Home to a Dominant Andrews Squad

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs (1-4) opened up district play against the Andrews Mustangs (3-3) at San Angelo Stadium on Friday night, October 6. The Chiefs struggled with explosive plays early in the game, and the Mustangs took advantage. Andrews dominated Lake View up front all game and secured a definitive victory, 63-7.

1st Half

The Mustangs received the first-half kickoff and kickstarted their offense with a 1-play, 75-touchdown drive. That sequence would define much of the night for the Chiefs in a game where explosive plays kept Lake View on the back foot. Andrews would go on to score 36 unanswered points in the first quarter, including one safety. Lake View’s offense never managed to get off the ground and went three and out on every possession they had. One positive for the Chiefs was the interception that they had to keep Andrews out of the end zone.

Lake View jumped up on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Chiefs’ wide receiver Michael Duran caught a screen pass on the far side of the field. With blockers out in front, Duran broke a tackle, made a few Mustangs miss, and then outran everybody to the house for a 55-yard touchdown. After the extra point, Lake View trailed 36-7. That score held until the end of the first half.

2nd Half

Andrews picked up exactly where they let off in the first half. The Mustangs blew up the Chiefs’ offensive line time and time again to get after their quarterback. Lake View never gave up as Michael Duran continued to make big catches in crucial moments on each and every drive. Two failed fourth down attempts and an interception kept Lake View out of the end zone on offense.

Andrews managed another four touchdowns in the 2nd half to secure a dominant victory, 63-7. After the game, Head Coach Hector Guevara gave his thoughts on his team’s performance. Check out the video below:
