JACKSONVILLE, FL – Longtime WWE Superstar Edge announced on Monday that he will be leaving WWE for the rival company AEW.
In an Instagram post published on October 2, 2023, Edge announced the move with a heartfelt message to his fans.
"I love WWE and appreciate everything the company has done for me. They put me on the map, gave me incredible opportunities, and provided me with a wonderful life," stated Copeland. "Damn, WWE helped me meet the woman I would build my family with. Sometimes relationships just fall apart, and I feel like WWE and I have outgrown each other."
The R-rated Superstar made his AEW debut by attacking his former tag team partner Christian's faction. Expect a rivalry between the two former WWE stars to play out on AEW.
This is just another move that AEW has made in attracting older WWE stars. Others include Chris Jericho, the Hardy Boys, and Bryan Danielson.
The following is the full message from former WWE Superstar Adam 'Edge' Copeland:
As some of you may know, I am no longer in WWE. My new home is AEW. First of all I want to talk about my 25 years with WWE. I love WWE and appreciate everything the company has done for me. They put me on the map, given me incredible opportunities, and given me a wonderful life. Damn, WWE helped me meet the woman I would build my family with. Sometimes relationships just fall apart and I feel like I and WWE have outdone each other. I wanted to do more things, and they didn't have much else to do for me. It's as simple as that. And that's okay. I don't believe in this weird one company vs another mentality. So if you're offended, go out for a walk, and get some fresh air. It's wrestling. As a wrestling fan that I still am, it's exciting that there are viable companies that offer wrestling on national and global platforms. If you're really a wrestling fan and not rhymes, this should make you happy too. I guess what I'm trying to say is this: If you've appreciated my work, you can still do it, no matter what the initials are. Because I'll still be busting my butt everytime he gets in the ring. This journey isn't over yet. Just try to have fun with me like it should be. Cause believe me, I'll have fun every time I'm in an AEW ring.
