SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State women's soccer team recorded its third win in 2023 by defeating Texas A&M International 2-0 on Wednesday, September The Rambelles improved to 3-5-1 on the season and 2-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play. TAMIU falls to 2-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the LSC.
The Belles came out hot on offense with seven shots in the first 20 minutes. Three of those shots were on target and had to be saved by Texas A&M International’s goalkeeper, Fabiana Solano. Despite the aggressive approach and multiple opportunities, ASU failed to score in the first half.
The Belles finally broke the stalemate in the 62’. Abigail Gutierrez took a pass from Abby James and shot from just outside the box. She beat the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net to give Angelo State a 1-0 lead.
In the 75’, Shaelyn Ward padded the Belles advantage with a tap-in near the box to put ASU up 2-0. Brianna Rodriguez made the pass and snagged herself an assist. The physical contest continued, but A&M International never managed to climb back into the game. It was a physical match, with four yellow cards handed out, including one to each head coach.
Rembelles Goal Keeper Amber Lockwood recorded her second consecutive shutout and her third at home on the season. ASU outshot Texas A&M International with 16 total shots and 9 on goal to the Dustdevils’ 10 shots and 6 on goal.
Next up, the Rambelles hit the road to face Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, September 30, at 1 p.m.
