MILWAUKEE, WI — Breaking news out of the NBA on Wednesday, September 27, as the Portland Trail Blazers traded All-Star point guard Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks in a monster, 3-team trade. Lillard will play alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2023.
Sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that for Lillard, Portland received Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, the Buck’s 2029 un-protected 1st round draft pick, and unprotected Milwaukee swap rights in 2028 and 2030. The Phoenix Suns were the third team that facilitated the deal. The Suns received Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson.
Back in July, Lillard requested a trade from the Trail Blazers, and Portland began fielding offers at that time. Lillard, 33, spent 11 years as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers. He ranks first in team history in both points and 3-pointers and second in assists. As a Trail Blazer, Dame had seven All-Star appearances and led a previously struggling organization to the playoffs eight times. He led the Trail Blazers to the Western Conference Finals in 2018-2019.
With the trade announcement, the Bucks are now the consensus favorites to win the NBA title at 4-1 odds on U.S. Sportsbooks. Milwaukee leap-frogged the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics.
