SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs lost a sprint to the finish last Friday at San Angelo Stadium against the Lubbock Westerners. While the Chiefs played hard all game, they ultimately fell at the end 43-41. Head Coach Hector Guevara held his weekly press conference at Lake View High School on Tuesday afternoon, September 19, to talk about the tough loss and what the Chiefs need to do on Friday against Levelland.
Check out the press conference below:
“We came out playing a lot better than we have the last couple of weeks,” Guevara said of his team last Friday. “It was a good ball game. We just have to keep doing what we were doing. We had a lot of positives, but we just can’t afford to give up big plays.”
One of the positive signs for the Chiefs was the 41 points scored against Lubbock High. Chiefs’ quarterback, Auston Perez, continues to develop as a competent passer. The young man went for 331 yards on 19/27 passing attempts for a whopping six touchdown passes and only one interception. The Chiefs struggled in previous contests to finish drives, but it seems like that issue might be in the rearview mirror moving forward. Lake View also accumulated 94 rushing yards in the high-scoring affair.

Next up, the Chiefs host the Levelland Lobos in a non-district matchup where, at 1-3, the Lobos' only win came against the same Lubbock High team that the Chiefs fell to by two points. The keys in this game will be limiting explosive plays and not turning the ball over. This Lake View team can score almost at will when it’s firing on all cylinders. Look for another matchup filled with points, but the Chiefs have the advantage at home.
The Lake View Chiefs host the Levelland Lobos at San Angelo Stadium on Friday, September 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
