SONORA— The Sonora Broncos beat the Alpine Bucks on Friday Night to stay perfect on the season at 4-0.
Alpine started off with a three-yard rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion to go up early over Sonora 8-0. With about four minutes left in the first quarter, Sonora running back Edgar DeLuna ran in a short touchdown and quarterback Juan Castillo converted the point after attempt for two to tie up the game at 8-8.
Under a minute to go, Alpine’s Reese Ahrens blocked a Sonora punt to end the first quarter.
In the second, Alpine punted to Sonora and DeLuna turned it on and dashed 96 yards for a touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion, the Broncos were leading 16-8. Then, the Broncos Josh Lozano ran in another score from about eight yards out. Another successful two-point conversion and Sonora was up 24-8.
The Bucks’ John Valenzuela kicked a 30-yard field goal with about two minutes left to make the score 24-11, which would be the score at halftime.
With six minutes left in the third, DeLuna ran in a six-yard score and the point after was no good, so the score stayed at 30-11. Alpine’s Iden Lujan ran in an eight-yard score to move the Bucks closer and after a successful kick, the score was 30-18 early in the fourth quarter.
Sonora’s DeLuna put up another rushing touchdown, this time from 15-yards out and after a two-point conversion, the Broncos improved their lead to 38-18. The Broncos would rush in another touchdown to make the score 45-18 at the end of the game.
DeLuna had 16 rushes for 218 yards and four touchdowns on offense. Castillo was 9/14 for 150 yards and one interception. The Broncos had 393 yards overall rushing and six touchdowns on the ground.
Sonora will start to prepare for district play in a couple week as they face the Harper Longhorns next week.
