PHILADELPHIA, PA — Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season begins on Thursday, September 14, when the Minnesota Vikings (0-1) travel to Philadelphia to play the Eagles (1-0) at Lincoln Financial Field at 7:15 p.m. The game can be watched on Thursday night on Amazon Prime Video and on the NFL App. Last season, the Vikings came to town only to leave with an embarrassing loss at the hands of Jalen Hurts and company.
In Week 1, Philadelphia survived a tough matchup against the New England Patriots in Foxborough after a pick-six gave the Eagles an early lead. An overall lackluster performance from the Eagles’ offense, and a stout Patriots’ defense, allowed New England to make a late run. Philadelphia hung on in the end 25-20, but without the early takeaways, the Eagles would have been in trouble. Philly’s defense secured the victory last Sunday, and should be a real test for Kirk Cousins and the Vikings on Thursday night.
The Vikings come off a humbling loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-17, in Minneapolis. Kirk Cousins had a rough outing against the Bucs. Statistically, Cousins had a monster day (33-44 passing, 344 yards, and two touchdowns). The difference in the game were Cousin’s turnovers. He fumbled the ball twice and threw a late interception on a day that the Vikings did not play their best. Justin Jefferson had over 150 yards receiving but failed to get into the end zone.
The Eagles dismantled the Vikings in Week 2 last season, but this is not the same Philadelphia team as the one who made it to the Super Bowl a year ago. Philly’s defense still has something to prove, and Thursday night should be an excellent opportunity to do so. On the opposite side of the field, the Vikings need to play better overall. Cousins needs to take better care of the ball and continue to feed Justin Jefferson. After releasing Dalvin Cook in the offseason, the Vikings run game is not impressing anyone yet, but things may change against the Eagles.
