The Chiefs Look for a Victory Over a 5A Rival on Friday

SAN ANGELO, TX — After a tough 42-6 loss to Vernon on the road last Friday, the Lake View Chiefs look to bounce back against the Lubbock High Westerners at San Angelo Stadium this weekend. Head Coach Hector Guevara held his weekly press conference at Lake View High School on Tuesday afternoon to talk about last week’s game and what the Chiefs need to do to claim another victory over Lubbock High.

Watch the press conference with Coach Guevara below:

Guevara said that Vernon played incredibly disciplined football last week, and because of some early mistakes, the Chiefs let the game get out of hand quickly. Lake View needs to move on from the loss quickly as a 5A school comes to town on Friday. The Chiefs beat the Westerners, 35-21, last season in one of the most complete games Lake View had a year ago.

Lubbock High currently sports a 1-2 overall record after opening up 2023 with a win against El Paso Socorro before dropping the next two games against Big Spring and Levelland. Both Big Spring and Levelland are in Lake View’s district, 1-4A, so a victory at home on Friday would go a long way in assuring the team and the fans that these boys can compete this year. With that being said, Lubbock High has several athletes on the roster that can make explosive plays. The Chiefs struggled with big plays against Sweetwater two weeks ago, so if Lake View learned anything from that matchup, expect the Chiefs to get another win.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium on Friday, September 15.
