Jets' Aaron Rodgers Done for the Year

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — Heart-wrenching news for New York Jets fans as one of the most anticipated seasons in recent memory ended after just four plays on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills in Metlife Stadium. An MRI confirmed Tuesday morning, September 12, that Future Hall of Fame Quarterback and recent acquisition from the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers, has a torn Achilles tendon. Rodgers is done for the year.

A somber moment after a thrilling victory came from Head Coach Robert Saleh at the post-game press conference.

"It's not good," Saleh said about Rodgers’s injury.

The Jets new quarterback went down four plays into New York’s opening drive and looked hobbled as he tried to stand up. He quickly went back down to the turf, and medical personnel rushed to assist the 39-year-old quarterback.

Rodgers tried to avoid a sack from the Bills Leonard Floyd during the play, and it appeared that his left foot caught in the turf on the way down. Slow-motion replay showed his calf reverberate as Rodgers put his full weight on the foot on his way to the ground.

Saleh said that the Jets will move forward with quarterback Zach Wilson from here on out. Wilson replaced Rodgers in the 1st quarter and soldiered the Jets to an overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills 22-16 on Monday night. New York took the lead late in the 4th quarter before Josh Allen led the Bills to field goal range, and Tyler Bass hit the game-tieing field goal with seconds left. The Bills started overtime on offense, but the Jets shut them down. On the ensuing punt, the Jets’ Xavier Gipson took the punt back to the house to win the game for New York in dramatic fashion.

Rodgers’s injury also affects the Green Bay Packers as part of the trade deal that dealt Rodgers to New York included a conditional second-round pick that required Rodgers to play at least 65% percent of the offensive snaps this season. The Packers moved on from Rodgers after the two parties could not resolve some lingering issues. Jordan Love, the incumbent heir in Green Bay, led the Packers to a 38-20 trouncing of the rival Chicago Bears on Sunday.

With Rodgers missing, the Jets hit the road in Week 2 to play a team whose defense put on an absolute showcase in the same stadium a day prior. The Dallas Cowboys trounced the New York Giants 40-0 in a showing that put the League on notice at Metlife Stadium on Sunday night. Rodgers ended many hopes, dreams, and playoff runs for the Dallas Cowboys over the years as a member of the Green Bay Packers. It looks like the Cowboys’ dangerous new defense will not get its shot at a rematch.

The Cowboys smothered Daniel Jones and the entire New York Giants on Sunday night. Dallas sacked Jones seven times, intercepted him twice, and caused a fumble. The Cowboys held the Giants to just 171 total yards and only 63 passing yards. Offensively, Dak had little to do and only threw for 143 yards. Dallas rushed for another 122 yards on the ground and left New York with a 40-0 victory.

The matchup against Dallas will be on Sunday, September 17, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington at 3:25 p.m.
