SAN ANGELO, TX — The TLCA San Angelo Eagles announced on Wednesday, September 6, that the school has parted ways with first-year head coach Paulo Gonzalez. TLCA said in a release that it released Gonzalez on Tuesday morning, September 5.
“District Administration has announced that Athletic Director Kent Sherrill and Offensive Coordinator Jonah Masters (along with our incredible coaching staff) will be leading the TLCA San Angelo football team for the remainder of the season,” the release said. “They are replacing Paulo Gonzalez, whom the District released on Tuesday morning, September 5th.”
No head coach was named instead the staff as a whole will work together to coach the team.
“We are proud of our Eagles and their 27-24 victory against Odessa Compass this past Friday,” TLCA continued. “At TLCA San Angelo, it’s our values that set us apart: Character, Growth, Servant Leadership, Empowerment, and Commitment. We look forward to a winning season.”
Gonzalez coached the Eagles in their Week 1 loss to Ozona but was suspended in Week 2. No additional information was provided, and the reasoning for Coach Gonzalez’s dismissal is still unknown.
The Eagles pulled off a miraculous victory late in the 4th quarter in Odessa against Compass Academy last Friday. TLCA San Angelo now brings its 1-1 overall record to Winters on Friday, September 8, to battle the Winters Blizzards (0-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
