STERLING CITY, TX – On Friday night, the Sterling City Eagles showed they are still top dog after beating their rivals, the Miles Bulldogs. The matchup was talked about all week as this would be a rematch from the 2022 Bi-District round between the two teams.
The game started out with both defenses flying around. The Bulldogs caused a fumble in the first quarter, but so did the Eagles. After the nerves settled, both teams were able to get in the end zone. The quarter ended 6-6.
The second quarter would yield the first interception of the season from Miles' star QB, Hayven Book. Despite that, the Bulldogs were able to rally back and take the lead 16-14.
The second half was even more explosive. Sterling City scored two unanswered touchdowns, one from a fumble recovery and one from a fullback dive. The Bulldogs answered with a run up the middle for a score, making the score 28-25.
To end the third quarter, the Bulldogs were able to get an interception. This crucial turnover would set Miles up for an impressive touchdown. Book took the ball, rolled to his left, threw across his body, and found an open receiver in the end zone. Miles went for 2, got it, and pushed their lead to 28-33.
Sterling City was not fazed by the score. The Eagles got the ball with eight minutes left on the clock. Their drive took four of those minutes off the clock and resulted in a touchdown by Senior RB Seth Turner. The game would end 36-32 Sterling City.
Here is head Coach Trey Cisco after the game:
During the 2022 regular season, the Eagles fell to the Bulldogs 40-21. They would ultimately upset the higher-ranked team in the first round of the playoffs 43-42.
