Reagan County Secures First Win in Dominant Fashion

BIG LAKE, TX — Week 2 of the Texas High School Football Season kicked off on Thursday, August 31, when the Reagan County Owls battled the McCamey Badgers in Big Lake. Reagan County looked to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss to Wink 54-48 in overtime in Week 1. The Owls burst out to an early lead and just kept adding on to it. Reagan County secured its first win of the season 57-27.

After punting in on the Owls’ first possession, Reagan County exploded on Offense. The combination of Kason Brown, AJ Avalos, Jarrett Brown, and Raymond Saldivar proved to be too much for McCamey to handle. The Owls built a 29-7 advantage behind touchdowns from Avalos, two from Saldivar, and one from Brown on the ground. Kason had two passing touchdowns in the first half.

McCamey had flashes of brilliance on offense but, overall, could not consistently overcome Reagan County’s defense. The Badgers best looking drive of the first half turned out to be a brilliant one by anyone’s standard. McCamey began the possession at the Badgers’ 2-yard line. They proceeded to march 98 yards on 10+ plays that were capped off by a 40-yard touchdown on a hitch route where the receiver broke several tackles on the way to a score.

In the 2nd half, the Owls picked up where they left off in the 1st half. Reagan County scored an additional 28 points in the second half before the game ended. McCamey never gave up. The Badgers fought until the very end and even had more success in the 2nd half than they did in the 1st. McCamey put up 20 points during the 3rd and 4th quarters to finish with 27 points.

Head Coach Kyle Brown gave his thoughts on his team’s performance after the win. Watch the full interview below:
