Area Teams Earn Top 10 Spots in Week 2 Rankings

SAN ANGELO— Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has released the Week Two Top 10 rankings and two more Concho Valley team has found a way to be ranked!

After having only the Wall Hawks ranked in the preseason “Top 10”, the Sonora Broncos have joined them as the two Concho Valley teams in Dave Campbell’s Top 10 ranking. Also joining the Top 10 is the Richland Spring Coyotes.

During Week One, the Hawks pummeled the Eastland Mavericks 35-10 and junior quarterback Gunner Dillard looked sharp, throwing 5/8 for 119 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed 20 times for 95 yards and two scores.

The Broncos took care of business in Runnels County against the Ballinger Bearcats 46-12 and running back/linebacker Edgar DeLuna took nine rushing attempts for 191 yards and four touchdowns on offense. On defense, he had 11 tackles and one tackle for loss. Then, when the Ballinger signal caller went to throw the ball, DeLuna jumped up, batted the ball back to the quarterback, chased him down and caused him to fumble the ball, which Sonora recovered.

Overall, the Sonora offense looked like a well-oiled machine, rushing for 398 yards and throwing for 178 yards. Junior quarterback Juan Castillo went 11/18 for 158 yards.

Richland Springs dropped 50 points on High Island on Friday to cause a mercy rule.
