GREEN BAY, WI — NFL Fans received a first look at Ezekiel Elliott in a New England Patriots uniform at the joint practice between the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots. On Wednesday, August 16, Elliott was present on the practice field with his new teammates, repping his No. 15 jersey.
Elliot said in a tweet earlier this week that he would not be wearing his iconic No. 21 with the Patriots. Instead, New England’s newest addition will wear the same number as he did as an Ohio State Buckeye, No. 15.
Elliott signed with the Patriots on Monday, August 14, for a 1-year $6 million deal. After the Dallas Cowboys released the long-time running back for salary cap purposes, many Cowboys fans felt hopeful after Jerry Jones saw a possible reunion on a reduced deal. Elliott and the Cowboys never came to terms, and the veteran back went shopping for new teams.
On July 29, Elliott made his way to Foxborough on an official visit to discuss playing for Belichick and the Patriots. NFL Network’s Mike Garafalo and Ian Rappaport later reported that although Elliott left New England without a contract, the two parties remained in contact with each other. The Patriots were in need of a veteran back in their running back room, and Elliott fit the bill.
While the NFL season has not kicked off as of yet, Cowboys and Patriots fans alike should be happy to see ‘Zeke’ on an NFL team this season.
