Angelo State Football No. 5 in AFCA Preseason Poll

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) recently released its Division II Top 25 preseason poll for the 2023 football season. For the second straight year, the Angelo State Rams enter the season in the Top 10 as the AFCA has the Rams at No. 5. 

Ranked No. 7 in the preseason poll a year ago, people have even more faith in the Rams this season. Angelo State received 590 points from voters to climb to No. 5 in the standings. The 2022 National Champion Ferris State came in at No. 1 in the preseason poll, with the Colorado School of Mines at No. 2. The AFCA voted Grand Valley State at No. 3, and Pittsburgh State rounds out the Top 5 at No. 4. 

Angelo State finished its 2022 campaign with a 12-1 overall record. The Rams fell in the third round of the playoffs to the Colorado School of Mines. ASU hopes to reload and chase another championship this year.

The AFCA Division II Board of Coaches has 30 voters representing all Division II conferences, as well as independent schools. The Division II Coaches’ Poll will be released on Mondays, beginning with a preseason poll in August, and will run through the final week of the regular season in November. A final poll will be released the Monday following the NCAA Division II championship game.
