BRADY, TX — The first week of summer Two-A-Days is officially in the books, and for some of our Concho Valley Schools, improvement is already underway. One of the schools is the Brady Bulldogs. The Bulldogs head into the 2023 season with a new head coach and a young team ready to work.
Brady’s athletic staff underwent several faculty changes over the summer. Brady ISD hired former Central Bobcats Basketball coach CJ Villegas to take over Athletic Director duties. Villegas, in turn, went out and found a replacement head football coach for Shay Easterwood after the former coach took a job at Abernathy. Brady decided to bring in Jaron Roberts, the former defensive coordinator at Stamford High School.
After the coaching carousel concluded, Roberts had little time to kickstart his new program. After summer training and a week of Two-A-Days, Roberts says he feels the Bulldogs are ahead of schedule. “We are very pleased with where we are at,” Roberts said. The guys have been coming out and working very hard. I would say that we are a little bit further along than we expected to be right now, and that’s attributed to our kids and the time and effort they put in.”

Three players returning to the Bulldogs as upperclassmen know how hard they have to work to find success, and it’s rubbing off on the underclassmen. San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick tracked down some of the leaders of this iteration of the Bulldogs for some interviews. Check them out below:

With a new athletic director and head coach, the Bulldogs expect some growing pains moving through non-district play. However, by the time Brady hits its district, expect these Bulldogs to play disciplined on the offense and hard-nosed on defense. COVER1 will follow these Bulldogs throughout their journey this year, and the results might shock some people.
The Bulldogs suit up for the first game of the 2023 season on Friday, August 25, at home in Brady against the Comanche Indians at 7 p.m.
