NFL Legend Becomes Minority Owner in English Soccer

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND — Tom Brady, NFL Legend and widely considered the greatest quarterback of all time, is exchanging one version of football for another. Announced on Thursday, August 3, Brady has become a minority owner of Birmingham City, a club in English soccer’s second-tier championship.

Brady, 46, entered into a partnership with Birmingham’s owners, Knighthead Capital Management LLC, to become a minority owner. The 7-time Super Bowl Champion will also become chairman of the advisory board. In a statement released by Birmingham City, the Club described what Brady’s role would be and what the Chairman of the advisory board entails.

“As Chairman of the Advisory Board, Brady will apply his extensive leadership experience and expertise across several components of the Club, including working alongside the sports science department to advise on health, nutrition, wellness, and recovery systems and programs,” Birmingham said in a release. “In addition, Brady will work closely with the Board and the management team on global marketing efforts and the identification of new commercial partnership opportunities for the Club.”

This career move looks to mark an officially official end to the legendary quarterback’s time in the NFL. Brady retired at the end of last season and said that it was for good this time. However, rumors and speculation swirl as the 2023 season approaches, but it looks like this time, Brady is done for good.

Brady played in the NFL for 23 seasons, won seven Super Bowl rings, was a 3-time NFL MVP winner, and a record 5-time Super Bowl MVP. He won six titles with the New England Patriots before leaving Foxsborrough for Tampa, where he won one title with the Tampa Bay Buccanneers.

Brady gave his thoughts on the new opportunity. “So here’s the deal. I’m officially coming on board at Birmingham City Football Club,” Brady said in a promotional video on Birmingham City’s Twitter. “And maybe you’re asking, what do you know about English football, Tom? Well, let’s just say I’ve got a lot to learn.”

“But I do know a few things about winning, and I think they might translate pretty well,” Brady continued. “I know success starts with the work put in the world isn’t watching. I know that a team is nothing without the city that shows up and stands behind it. Most importantly, I like being the underdog.”

Brady mentioned that he loves being the underdog. He’s always had a chip on his shoulder that he used to motivate himself his entire career. Brady was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 2000 NFL draft with the 199th pick. No one thought Brady would turn out to be the greatest quarterback ever to play when he came out of the University of Michigan.
