SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs football program is well into the first week of the 2023 Fall camp. Head Coach Hector Guevara led practice on Wednesday, August 2, on the practice fields out at Lake View High School. The Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman teams all practiced together as they learned the new schemes and formations ahead of the 2023 season.
Lake View had several players who looked to have had a successful summer conditioning regimen completed as they moved through various drills on the practice field.
Lake View struggled with injuries in 2022. Coach Guevara says that if the Chiefs can stay healthy this season, then Lake View could see a return to the playoffs this year. The Chiefs will continue to practice in the morning for the rest of this week before moving to an additional afternoon practice at Lake View Stadium next week to prepare for the heat.
The Chiefs look to make a resurgence in their district this year after failing to win a district game a season ago. Guevara says that the offseason program bore fruit this summer, and his team has much to work on but will be ready to go come August 25. San Angelo LIVE!'s Ryan Chadwick met up with Coach Guevara at practice on Wednesday morning to discuss the state of the Chiefs. Watch the full interview below.
“It’s obvious that some of these guys have been working, so [now] they are getting conditioned. The guys that have been coming this summer, though, they look good,” Guevara said. “We still have a ways to go.”
Lake View travels to Fort Stockton next for the first scrimmage of 2023 before turning around the next week to play another scrimmage at San Angelo Stadium. “We want to see some execution [next week],” Guevara continued. “We need to make sure we follow our game plan and do what we are taught. The coaches are doing a good job of getting these guys ready to play sound football.”
After a season where circumstance held the Chiefs back, Guevara said it would take more than just a few guys on the team to lead the Chiefs next season. “It’ll take 11 of us,” Guevara said. “We need to play as a team. Playing with all 11, that’s what we are looking for.”
The Chiefs open up their 2023 campaign against Lamesa on August 25.
