"We're the Best"; Cowboy's Defensive Star Believes in Dallas

OXNARD, CA— One of the best players in the National Football League has high praises for the Dallas Cowboys.

With training camp underway in beautiful Oxnard, California, All-World linebacker Micah Parsons believes the Cowboys are the best team in the conference.

“I think we are the top team in the NFC,” said Parsons, “We’re the only team that gained players. We didn’t lose a Javon Hargrave and then draft somebody. We have everybody across the board.”

Parsons is one of those guys that is allowed to talk as he can back it up. Since entering the NFL, Parsons has done nothing but play at a high level. Over the two years he’s been in the league, Parsons has 26.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He makes an immediate impact when he’s on the field.

The Cowboys have been focused on the defensive side of the ball since they hired Dan Quinn as the defensive coordinator. Since hiring Quinn, the Cowboy’s drafts have added talent on the defense.

The Cowboys 2021 draft consisted of eight defensive players and three offensive players. Those include:

  • Micah Parsons- LB
  • Kelvin Joseph- CB
  • Osa Odighizuwa- DT
  • Chauncey Golston- DE
  • Nahshon Wright- CB
  • Jabril Cox- LB
  • Josh Ball- OT
  • Simi Fehoko- WR
  • Quinton Bohanna- DT
  • Isreal Mukuamu- DB
  • Matt Farniok- OG

In 2022, out of nine picks, five went on the defense

  • Tyler Smith- OT
  • Sam Williams- DE
  • Jalen Tolbert- WR
  • Jake Ferguson- TE
  • Matt Waletzko- OT
  • DaRon Bland- CB
  • Damone Clark- LB
  • John Ridgeway III- DT
  • Devin Harper- LB

Of course, in 2023, the Cowboys again added more help to the defense.

  • Mazi Smith- DT
  • Luke Schoonmaker- TE
  • DeMarvion Overshown- LB
  • Viliami Fehoko- DE
  • Asim Richards- OT
  • Eric Scott Jr.- CB
  • Deuce Vaughn- RB
  • Jalen Brooks- WR

That makes 17 out of 28 players the Cowboys have added to the defense over the past three drafts.

They’ve also held onto many defensive veterans, bringing back pretty much all of their starters. In March, Dallas added cornerback Stephon Gilmore, a former defensive player of the year, to the defense and resigned Leighton Vander Esch, Jonathan Hankins, Donovan Wilson, and Dante Fowler.

“No one can beat you except yourself,” Parsons said.

If you compare the Cowboys to the Philadelphia Eagles, they’ll be replacing some key players with young, second-year, players. They lost safety C.J. Gardner- Johnson, T.J. Edwards, and Javon Hargrave to the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers respectively. Everyone expects second year players Nakobe Dean and Jordan Davis or rookie Jalen Carter to step into some of those roles.

Either way, the Cowboys and Eagles rivalry is always a talking point throughout the season and all this talk will only add fuel to the fire.
