Elite Cowboy Player No-Shows at Training Camp

OXNARD, CA— A top offensive linemen in the NFL has not reported to the Cowboy’s training camp.

All-Pro Dallas Cowboy offensive lineman Zack Martin did not report when training camp opened on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. According to reports, Martin is upset and believes he is “woefully underpaid” compared to other players.

Before getting into it, Martin has been an All-Pro and future Hall of Fame player for the Cowboys since he stepped foot on the field. He was drafted in 2014, the same year that Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was the fan favorite for the Cowboys pick to do their inability to actually scout.

Martin is one of the best of his generation, on October 6, 2022, NFL on CBS tweeted one of the most insane stats about Martin.

Martin’s average salary per year is $14 million. For the offensive guards in the NFL, that is currently less than seven other players.

  • Chris Lindstrom- Falcons- $20,500,00
  • Quenton Nelson- Colts- $20,000,000
  • Elgton Jenkins- Packers- $17,000,000
  • Brandon Scherff- Jaguars- $16,500,00
  • Joel Bitonio- Browns- $16,000,000
  • Joe Thuney- Chiefs- $16,000,000
  • Wyatt Teller- Browns- $14,200,000

Also, Martin has no guaranteed money on his contract left.

Everyday Martin doesn’t show up to camp he’ll incur a $50,000 fine, something the team cannot rescind due to the collective bargaining agreement. Currently, the Cowboys have just over $21 million in cap space.

Over his nine-year NFL career, Martin has only missed nine games due to injury and has been the shining example of “the best ability is availability”. He also has six All-Pro and eight Pro-Bowl selections.

While this won’t have anything to do with negotiations, Martin was just added to Madden’s 99 Club, which elite players in the NFL are part of the video game’s highest ranking possible. Martin is the first linemen do make the “99 Club” in 20 years.

In short, Martin is one of the best to ever play the position and the Cowboys will need to get something done. Dallas has a need for interior offensive linemen and did not address the issue in the 2023 NFL Draft or really in free agency.
