Both middle school and high school coaches are there to help train the next generation of Central Bobcats to learn and improve upon some essential skills necessary to excel on Friday nights. Each camper broke out into groups depending on their position before those positional coaches led them through multiple drills and workouts that helped prepare them for the fall.
Central’s Head Football Coach took the time to explain the importance of hosting the camp right before the start of practice in the fall. “Number one, you get to start developing relationships with these kids,” Crane said. “That’s really what it’s all about. Developing relationships and hoping they fall in love with Bobcat Football.”
“For rising 9th graders, the good thing about [this camp] is that they start fall camp next week,” Crane continued. “But this week right here gives them a week to prepare for that fall camp. So, they are learning where to line up. They are learning what position they are and offense and defense. The ones that are here this week generally are the ones that are ahead next week and when we start fall camp.”
The middle schoolers definitely looked to be working hard. High temperatures couldn’t stop the runningbacks from hitting the holes, receivers from sprinting down the field, and quarterbacks from practicing precision and deep throws. Defensively, linebackers, safeties, and corners practiced making reads and form when dropping into coverage. Lastly, the big boys learned where and how to line up before working on explosiveness and footwork.
The camps run through Thursday, and the Bobcats officially start its Fall camp next week. Football is just around the corner.
